Michael Joseph Smothers

Michael "Mike" Joseph Smothers, 54, of Millbury, Ohio, passed away on July 28, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. Born on February 7, 1970, in Toledo, Ohio, Mike was a devoted husband, father, friend, and a cherished member of his community.

Mike was the beloved son of Kathleen M. (McConaughey) and Gary Smothers. He married his sweetheart, Julie Ann Rose, on December 28, 1990, and they shared 33 wonderful years together. Mike’s love and commitment to Julie were evident in every aspect of his life.

As a proud father, Mike was deeply involved in his children’s lives. He was the proud dad of Michael Smothers Jr. and Kelsey Smothers. He supported them in their sporting events whether he was coaching soccer or baseball for Michael or sitting at a track meet or being the ultimate cheer dad for Kelsey. Mike was always there with encouragement and enthusiasm.

Mike had a bond with his dog, Zoey. Who was more than just a pet; she was Mike's best friend, offering unconditional love and endless joy. She brightened up his days by wagging her tail and snuggling with him on the couch.

Professionally, Mike had a successful career in the uniform services industry. He served as a general manager for Aramark Uniform Services and most recently at Superior Uniform Services. Prior to that, he was a zone manager for Schwan’s Food Services.

Mike’s passion extended beyond his work. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing guitar, and reveling in 80s rock music. He had a knack for fixing and working on projects around the house and yard, often brought to life by Julie’s bright ideas—an endeavor he tackled with a smile, never able to say no to her. Mike also found joy in playing video games and was an enthusiastic fan of golf and the Cleveland Browns.

Mike is survived by his wife, Julie Smothers; children, Michael Smothers Jr and Kelsey Smothers; father, Gary (Anne) Smothers. He is also remembered fondly by his sisters Nicole (Pete) Muehlfeld, Robyn Reeves, Andrea (Brian) Meinardi, and Melissa (Alan) Schroeder, as well as his inherited brothers and family, Tim Carey, Dennis (Shelley) Carey, and Ken (Amy) Carey. He also leaves to cherish his memory his wonderful work family and amazing group of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen; and his grandparents, Mary and Bob McConaughey, and Hank and Ruth Smothers; brother-in-law, Liam Reeves.

Friends will be received at Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Rd, Rossford, Ohio on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday, August 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial donations in Mike’s name by made to the family. Mike will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
