Michael D. Rang, age 63, of Sylvania, died April 27, 2017 at The Toledo Hospital. He was born April 15, 1954 in Toledo to the late Earl and Virginia (Cote) Rang. A graduate of Whitmer High School, Mike was a 30-year member of Local 50 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, retiring in 2012. He loved the outdoors; finding great peace and serenity in time spent amongst nature. He enjoyed exploring new places, tinkering, golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, skiing, and spending time at his second home in Coldwater, Michigan, where he was affectionately known as ‘The Mayor’. Mike was a member of the Sylvania Moose and Tomahawk Archery Club. He found some of his greatest joy in making memories with his wife, children, and grandchild. As a father and husband, he worked tirelessly throughout his life to make sure his children and wife knew they were unconditionally loved. Mike will always be lovingly remembered by those he knew for his constant desire to be present for them. He wanted to empower others to get the most from their lives, providing wisdom through genuine thought and guidance without judgement or malice. Left to cherish his memory is best friend and wife of 42 years, Joni C. Rang; children, Bruce Rang (Brandi) and Jennifer Rang (Daniel Wise); one-year old granddaughter, Karleigh JoAnn Rang; sister, Loretta Coberley; many adored nieces and nephews including a special brotherly bond with Brian Rang (Colette), and countless friends. Mike was preceded in death by siblings, Charles and Richard Rang and JoAnn Moore. Visitation will be in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 5:00 p.m. Private entombment will take place in Toledo Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mike are suggested to the family, in care of Walker Funeral Home, to help fund a special public memorial in his honor at Branch County Memorial Park in Coldwater, Michigan or donations can be made in his name to the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (www.swmlc.org/donate).
