Michael Phillip Sbrocchi

Dec 9, 1951 — Oct 27, 2026

Michael Phillip Sbrocchi, 74, passed away at the Ebeid Hospice Center October 27, 2026. Mike was born in Toledo, OH to Michael and Shirley (Walkowiak) Sbrocchi on December 9,1951. He attended both St. Francis and the University of Toledo, Mike was a proud veteran who served in the US Air Force and in the Air National Guard.

Mike retired from the Toledo Fire Department in 2002 after serving in many capacities there. He progressed from firefighter to paramedic, then he was shortly a fire inspector before transitioning to Arson Investigator. As an investigator he was also required to become a certified law enforcement officer.

After retirement Mike joined the Lucas County Sheriff Reserve ultimately becoming Major of the unit. He loved being able to assist in the planning and providing security for several community events. Escorting the Honor Flights and Presidential details were what he enjoyed best, enabling him the privilege of meeting both President Obama and President Trump.

In both careers he was actively involved with securing area firework sites, leading to him working with a national fireworks company delivering, setting up and setting off fireworks.

Mike was honored to have been selected to help coach and train two USA Olympic Wrestling teams (South Korea and the Atlanta Olympic). He also helped bring back the World Cup of Wrestling back to Toledo in the late1980's along with the late Joe Scalzo Jr. and his mentor, the late Dick Torio.

Mike married his beloved wife Kathy (Mikulak) on November 2, 1984. They enjoyed going to casinos and traveling. Personal favorites were Las Vegas and cruising the Caribbean Islands. And he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He proudest moments were when he acted as wrestling coach at St. Frances for his son Tony; walking his beautiful daughter Michelle down the aisle for her wedding; and the birth of his first grandchild, Anthony.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Shirly Sbrocchi; his brother, Timothy Sbrocchi and his son-in-law, Barrett Schwartz.

He's leaving behind his loving family. Surviving Mike is his wife, Kathy: his children, Tony Sbrocchi and Michelle Sbrocchi-Schwartz; grandchildren, Anthony Sbrocchi, Nia Sbrocchi and Kayla Sbrocchi. He is also survived by his brothers Rick (Anne) Sbrocchi and Tom (Robyn) Sbrocchi; and many nieces and nephews. Mike will also be missed by his best friend of 50 years, Larry Temme.
