Michael "Mj" Smith

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael “MJ” Smith, beloved husband, father, and friend, who passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on December 11, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio.

Mike was a devoted husband to Sue for 53 years and an amazing father to Joshua Smith and Katy (Paul) Kowalik. His family meant everything to him and he was a constant source of strength and wisdom, always willing to lend a hand or offer advice.

His sense of humor, stories and laugh will be missed by his wife, his children, his grandchildren -Taylor Smith, Kaylee Smith, Anna Smith, Noah Pannell and Camden Smith – who affectionately called him “Poppy”, his sister Sue (Paul) Jaros, brother Joseph (Brenda) Smith, sisters-in-law Kathy Varga and Cindy Vild, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He will also be missed by his furry friends, Zeus and Ramona.

Mike graduated from Lake High School in 1966 and was proud of his 40 plus year career with CSX. In his retirement, he cultivated one of the most beautiful gardens and landscapes in the area. He was an avid hunter and his trips to Southern Ohio and Kentucky to hunt were special to him.

Waiting for him on the other side are his mother, Shirley, his father, Joseph, mother-in-law, Betty Ball, father-in-law, Joe Ball and many furry friends, including his beloved cat, Oliver.

A special thank you to his “sister Sue”, for the special care she gave her brother during this difficult time. Her steady guidance and support meant everything to his wife and children.

The family also wishes to thank Dr. Phinney and his staff and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa, Ohio is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
