Mike McAlear, 79 of Sylvania, Ohio passed away on October 8th 2017 peacefully in his sleep in the loving embrace of his home. Mike was a one-of-a-kind person who lived his life how he wanted, and loved to make others laugh with a joke or a story. Mike enjoyed a full life of music, nature, golf, family, and never missed a good happy hour! Mike was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 11th 1938 to James and Helen (Dush) McAlear. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio where he was a celebrated athlete. Mike had a passion for Jazz music, playing the drums, reading, and the Michigan Wolverines (even though he went to Ohio State!) He also attended the University of Toledo. Mike spent the majority of his working life in Real Estate as a Commercial Industrial Appraiser and Broker. He has lived in Naples, Florida, and Blue Ridge, Georgia before recently returning to the Toledo area. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Mary and Jacki McAlear. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Angie; children, Vicki VanDeilen and Jeff McAlear; grandchildren, Victor and Vincent VanDeilen; great-grandchildren, Ellis and Edie VanDeilen; brothers, James and John Jack McAlear; and several nieces and nephews. Church Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, Ohio at 10:00 a.m.on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The service will be live streamed at www.stjoesylvania.org.
