Michael S. Mack, M.D., 74, of Ottawa Hills, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022. He was born in Toledo, OH to Stephen A. Mack, Esq., and Virginia (Sanecki) Mack on March 5, 1948. Dr. Mack graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School, the University of Toledo, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed an internship and residency at the Medical College of Ohio. In 1977, Dr. Michael Mack began his group practice in obstetrics and gynecology at the Toledo Clinic, specializing in infertility. His accomplishments included becoming a local pioneer in the field of advanced operative hysterectomy and laparoscopy. He retired from practice in 1999 due to health reasons, but that did not stop him from continuing his mission. Dr. Mack became a volunteer teacher at the Medical College of Ohio, instructing residents and medical students in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and physical diagnosis. In 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the college and later received multiple recognitions and awards from his peers and students including: The University of Toledo College of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, first annual “The Michael Mack M.D. Education Award”.
Michael’s life goal was to improve the lives of all he encountered, including countless patients, students, friends, and most of all family. He enjoyed many family road trips and traveled by rail across the U.S. and Canada. He also enjoyed annual anniversary trips with his loving wife, Julie. Michael took his role of grandpa seriously; he had a special bond with each grandchild built around their interests. He loved photography, IndyCar Racing, model trains, woodworking, family pets and birdwatching. He was proud of his home and yard, both of which he designed and maintained. Michael was the kind of person who made friends everywhere he went, genuinely caring and interested in everyone around him.
Michael (Daddy/Ba/Grandpa/Dr. Mack) is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Julie (Shea) Mack; children, Laura (David) Roberts, Andrea (Osama) Francis; grandchildren, Nathan Roberts, Katherine Hudak, Abigail Francis; sister, Annette (Jeffery) Custer; and nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
