Michael Joseph Kusner, 87, of Carlsbad, CA, formerly of Boundary Drive, Genoa, OH, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Glenbrook Skilled Nursing Facility in Carlsbad as a result of complications from a recent stroke. He was born in Rossford, OH, September 9, 1919, to Jack and Mary Schultz Kusner. Mike was a WWII veteran of the Army serving in the infantry in the South Pacific. On June 28, 1947, he married Peggy Lou McHaffie of Walbridge, OH. Michael worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford in Rossford for several years and retired from there in September 1981. While living in Genoa, he was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.In 1991 Mike and his wife relocated to southern California to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In retirement he really enjoyed the game of golf belonging to the San Marcos Golf Club and Resort and was thrilled to become a member of the hole-in-one club. He was an avid, loyal Ohio State fan and had a keen mind for solving crossword puzzles and word jumbles.Survivors include his son, Greg Kusner, daughter Debra Kusner Todak, son-in-law, James Todak, granddaughters, Natalie and Andrea Todak, and brothers, Ray and Gene Kusner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, Peggy, sisters, Helen, Josie, Sophie, and Irene and brothers, Tony, John, and Joe.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa, OH. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Genoa, from 7-9 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2007. A military graveside will be held in Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury, OH. The family requests that memorials be made to San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care.
