Michael Larry Kontak

Michael Larry Kontak passed away August 27, 2015, at his home in New Jersey. Mike was the first born of eight children to Larry Kontak and Joanne Cashen on June 26, 1956. He was raised in Elmore, Ohio, and a 1974 graduate of Woodmore High School and attended Penta County Vocational School. On July 9, 1976, he married Tami Burdge, and they have two daughters. Mike had recently retired from Labors Local 500 after 35 years of service with SA Storer and Sons as a mason tender. Mike was a man of very strong faith and loved serving the Lord, reading scriptures and leading others to pray-that was a part of who he was. He enjoyed the outdoors; but most important, he loved to fish. Whether it was in the company of his kids, grandkids, family, friends or by himself, he enjoyed every minute of it. Another passion of his was model trains, anywhere from building the locomotives to constructing villages, in which he took great pride. On August 27th Michael was called home to be with the Lord. He will be dearly missed for his loving, quiet, warm-hearted ways. When he hugged you and said, I love you, you knew he meant it. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Larry Kontak, mother, Joanne Cashen, and brother, Bradley John Kontak. Surviving are his daughters, Ashley (Ryan) Travis and Brittney (Nick) Carsten, grandchildren, Paige, Azure and Keira Travis, Tyson Carsten and step grandchild, Max Carsten. Also surviving are step father, William Cashen and siblings, Kathy (Terry) Gaines, Becky (Paul) Mancinotti, Mark (Jan) Kontak, Kay (Dave) Egert, Brenda (Mark) Ihde, and Kelly (John) Meeker, along with 18 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 412 Fremont St., Elmore, with an hour of visitation prior from 10-11:00 a.m. The family has suggested memorials for Michael to Trinity Lutheran Church, 412 Fremont St., Elmore, OH 43416.
