Michael D. Holmes, M.D., 68, of Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio and McCormick, South Carolina died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio in 1948. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1966. He received his B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and his medical degree from The Ohio State University Medical School. After practicing family medicine in Huron, Ohio, he trained at the Cleveland Clinic in pathology and shortly after attained a hematology fellowship. He worked at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Lima Pathology for 20 years. In his lifetime he enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, and following the Cleveland Indians. In retirement he resided in Savannah Lakes Village in South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret (Dale) and Ernest Raymond Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, three children, Matthew (Amy), Trevor (Stacy), and Abigail (Loic), and one brother, John. He also enjoyed being with his seven grandchildren. A memorial service will take place in McCormick, South Carolina in the fall. Donations may be made to Ohio Wesleyan University, Feeding America, or the McCormick United Methodist Church in South Carolina.
