Michael T. Gramza

Michael T. Gramza, Sr., passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Sylvania. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, sense of humor and commitment to helping others will be remembered for years to come.

Born on September 9, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, Mike spent his life dedicating himself to his family, friends and community. A devout Catholic, Mike graduated from Central Catholic High School and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee.

Mike worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years, many of which were spent managing high-value, registered mail and serving as a union steward. Prior to his time at USPS, he worked at Nickles Bakery and Toledo Raceway Park. His stint at Raceway Park led to him working at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby days for many years. In his retirement, he volunteered at Brandywine and Heatherdowns Country Clubs.

A massive sports fan, Mike loved watching and attending sporting events with his friends and family, especially when the Detroit Lions or Detroit Tigers were playing. Mike was a Maumee Little League baseball coach, and earned recognition from the Ohio High School Athletic Association for his 49 years umpiring varsity baseball and softball.

Mike also enjoyed traveling with friends and family, playing euchre, dancing to “Shout” by the Isley Brothers, and telling anyone and everyone how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.

Mike is preceded in his death by his parents Peter and Mary, and brothers Pete and Jimmy. He is survived by Joyce, his wife of 60 years and love of his life. He is also survived by his sons Mike II (Lisa), Mark (Wendy) and Matt (Beth), his sister Sue Socie (Bob), as well as his grandchildren Kristin, Nick, Ben, Emily, Ryan and Reagan.

Services will begin with a celebration of Mike’s life on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, from 3-7 p.m. at Walker Maison-Dardenne Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio, 43537. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St., Maumee, OH, 43537.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of your choice.
