Michael Gale Dunphy

June 26, 1942 — February 27, 2017

Michael Gale Dunphy, 74, of Swanton, OH and formerly of Perrysburg, OH passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gale was born in Toledo, OH on, June 26, 1942, to Nicholas Gregory and Loretta (Prosheck) Dunphy. He attended Central Catholic and Libbey High Schools. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Gerhauser on September 8, 1962. Gale’s career began over 50 years ago at Donaldson Ford in Maumee. He worked for various dealerships including 25 years in sales and management at the White Dealerships. Finding it difficult to retire and relax, he started working at Camping World/Rossford which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a past member of Heatherdowns CC, where he was the 1989 Club Champion. He was also a past member of Bay View Yacht Club, and Devils Lake Yacht Club. Gale regularly donated his time to Maumee Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid Ohio State fan and was the happiest spending time with his family at his cottage and home on Devils Lake and more recently camping with Sue and their beloved dog, Holly. Gale is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; daughter, Kimberly (Tom) Shanahan; sons, Bill (Konnie) Dunphy, Jon (Melody) Dunphy, and Mike (Heidi) Dunphy; precious grandchildren, Kayla (Austen) Boone and Mike Shanahan, Joe, Katie, Sean, Brad, Alex, Tyler, Alayna, Drew and Calleigh Dunphy; brother, Gregg Dunphy and his best friend Penny. He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas, and his mother, Loretta Dunphy-Wood and the “best pooch he ever had”, Holly, who passed away in August. Friends will be received from 3-8 P.M. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133). Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at CedarCreek Church, 29129 Lime City Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551 with burial to follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hickman Cancer Center and the nurses from Hospice who were there for all of us this past year. And to all of our family and friends, thank you for your kindness and prayers. We love you all. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to Maumee Habitat for Humanity or to the Hickman Cancer Center.
