Michael "Moe" R. Bennett, 79, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born on January 4, 1947, in Toledo, OH, to William R. and Lois (LeCrone) Bennett.
Mike graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1965. After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country including a tour in the Vietnam War. On January 10, 1970, in Bellevue, OH, he married Margaret M. Gohlike, and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2018. In 2018 Mike was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. for veterans, which he really appreciated.
Mike was a lifelong trucker who truly loved everything about trucking and trucks. In his younger years, he earned the nickname "Mighty Moe" from a Tonka truck that he carried around and played with constantly. Over time, "Moe" became the name everyone knew him by, and it stuck with him throughout his life. He even used "Moe" as his CB radio handle.
Growing up and during his younger years, Mike especially enjoyed fishing. He was also a proud member of Kozy Corner's "round table club," a group of farmers and truckers who gathered there for breakfast each morning. The staff loved Mike, and he even had his own ketchup dispenser there, a fitting tribute to his love of putting ketchup-lots of ketchup-on just about everything.
Mike was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor; Oak Harbor American Legion Post #114; Oak Harbor V.F.W. Post #8732; and the Teamsters Retirees.
Mike loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. He especially enjoyed watching episodes of Seinfeld with his daughter, Michelle. He was a hardworking man who was known for always being early wherever he went. More importantly, Mike was a man of his word-someone his family and friends knew they could count on.
Mike is survived by his loving daughter, Michelle (Al) Burton; grandchildren, Kyle Williamson, Anthony Spencer, and Kamren Spencer-Bennett; six great-grandchildren; brother, James Bennett; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, Michael Bennett; and granddaughter, Arianna Spencer.
Graveside services for Mike will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with Pastor Darrell Hamm officiating. Military graveside rites will follow, conducted by the Oak Harbor American Legion and Oak Harbor V.F.W.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mike may be made to the Oak Harbor American Legion or Oak Harbor V.F.W.
