Michael Anthony Bayer, 68, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at St. Anne's Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Mike was born on August 1, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to George and Betty (Junge) Bayer of Perrysburg. He was a 1975 graduate of Perrysburg High School and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division (Go Air Cav!!).
A talented machinist and millwright, Mike spent the majority of his career at H. Hansen Industries in Point Place, where he was known for his strong work ethic and skill. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was a devoted fan of THE Ohio State University football team.
Mike will be remembered for his upbeat disposition, warm smile, and his almost uncanny "whisperer" ability with domestic animals, paired with a deep respect for all wildlife. He also had a well‑known LOVE of margaritas and Mexican food, which often brought smiles and laughter to friends and family gatherings.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle (Yager) Bayer; his children Robin (Bill) Dean, Hollie (Stephen) Tokish, Michael (Jessica) Bayer and nine amazing grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, George John Bayer, and his wife and mother of his children, Carla (Werner) Bayer.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to Mike's sister Jackie Bayer who aided Gayle in caring for Mike at home, Morgan Faubert his infusion nurse, Dr. Richard Phinney and the Karmanos Cancer Center in Maumee, Dr. Robert Palmer and the staff of St. Anne's Hospital especially RNs Amber and Chris from the Progressive Care Unit, and Dr. Z the head of the ICU, RN Supervisor Michael, RN Oneal, Respiratory Spec. Val, Chaplain Tom Carr and so many more who cared for Mike in the end. Even though we cannot remember all of the names, I will never forget how well cared for and loved that we felt during this time.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Prayers will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial and graveside services will follow at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider memorial contributions be made to Pheasants Forever (www.pheasantsforever.org) in Mike's memory.
