Meryl Elene Tabner

October 27, 1920 — April 4, 2016

Meryl E. (Beals) Tabner, 95, of Toledo, OH passed away on April 4, 2016 at The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH. She was born on October 27, 1920 in Brookings, South Dakota to Daniel W. Beals and Clara R. Eberlein. She graduated from Brookings High School and the University of Minnesota with a Registered Nurse and Bachelor of Science degrees. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp in World War II and served in France, Germany and Austria. She met and married the love of her life after just two months in the Army. In 1945, she returned with her husband to live in Toledo, OH. She was employed by American Red Cross and Toledo Clinic. After adopting four children there was no time for outside workforce. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Meryl loved to knit, making numerous prayer shawls for nursing homes amongst many other beautiful pieces. She played bridge, tennis, enjoyed her yard work and summers were spent at the beach swimming and laying in the sun. Meryl was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas C. Tabner in 1964; brother, USAC fighter pilot Lt. Donald L. Beals, who went missing in action April 17, 1945 (whose remains were recently recovered in Germany); great grandson, Justin M. Tabner in 1999; son, Michael Tabner in 2003 and daughter, Brooke A. Hebler in 2007. Meryl is survived by her son, Douglas C. (Cindy)Tabner, Jr.; daughter Marty L. (Raymond) Hosley; granddaughters, Holly (Carl) Tabner, Lisa (Brad) Owens; grandson, Bryan Hebler; great great granddaughters, Julieanne Owens, Emma Owens, Katie Owens; great great grandson Seth Tabner, Carl Tabner, Keith Owens; brother, Charles Beals; many special nieces & nephews and close friends Mike and Chris Maran. Friends may visit the family on Friday form 3-8PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Stein Hospice of Sandusky 1200 Sycamore Line Sandusky, OH 44870, Ohio Veterans Home 3416 Columbus Ave Sandusky, OH 44870 or a charity of the donors choice.
