Merla L. Jahns, (age 98), passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026 at the Elizabeth Scott Community. Born in Duncansville, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1927, to James and Grace (Kyler) Rickert, Merla was a life-long resident of the Toledo area. After graduating from Libbey High School in 1945, Merla was employed most of her working life by the former Medical College of Ohio, retiring in 1989. Merla was also a long-time volunteer at the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. Her greatest achievement in life was successfully raising 2 children on her own when her husband passed away at an early age. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be terribly missed. She will always be fondly remembered as the Queen!
Merla is survived by her two children: Thomas (Tammy) Jahns and Peggy (Patrick) Good; four grandchildren: Daniel (Emily), Catherine (Mitch), Matthew (Kelly) and Emily (Jake); three great-granddaughters: Juliana, Grace and Faye and a forthcoming fourth great-grandchild in March. She is also survived by her niece and special friend, Sharon Dunn and nephew Ronald Dunn.
Merla was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth M. Jahns, her parents James and Grace Rickert, her sister Betty Morris and her brother Paul Rickert.
Arrangements are being provided by the Walker Funeral Home. In honoring her wishes, there will be no public visitation and graveside services will remain private at Toledo Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to charities of the donor's choice.
