Meredith Nelms

Meredith Dee Nelms of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on April 4, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on December 2, 1924 in Waveland, Arkansas, to the late William and Esther Nelms. The family relocated to Oklahoma, where he spent the balance of his youth. After high school, Dee joined the Army Air Forces, participating in World War Two efforts in Guam, Guadalcanal, and Japan. He relocated to the Toledo area after his service. In 1964, Dee married Joyce McCarthy, and over the next two decades, they would foster over 100 children through Catholic Charities. Dee was a general contractor, building apartment complexes, office buildings, and residential developments in Toledo and Sylvania. Preceded in death by his parents and son, Barry Nelms, Dee is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Joyce; and his four children, Rick Anita Conley, Vicki Rick May, Pam Ron Brewer, and Lisa Michael Justice. He was affectionately known as Pop to his nine grandchildren, Mike Meghan Conley, Nicole Ryan Janicki, Megan Travis Banta, David Suzanne Simon, Jared Christina Simon, Noelle Nick Scott, Jim Stephanie May, Allison May, and Michael May, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will follow at 2:00pm.
