Melvin D. VanEtten age 88 of Toledo passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania. He was born February 26, 1924 in Toledo to Charles and Helen Wolfe VanEtten. Melvin retired from the DeVilbiss Corporation in 1985 as a general foreman of the machine shop after 44 years. A veteran of the army in World War II he was a tank commander and served with General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. A member of VFW Post #2898 he enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling and working outside. Melvin was also a Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeye fan. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Virginia; brother Wesley VanEtten; and son-in-law Mark Traczyk, he is survived by son Ronald Kathleen VanEtten; daughters Susan Francis Monaghan, Sharon Robert Thomas and Sandy Traczyk; grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, Kevin, Andrea, Craig, Lindsay and Karly; and 4 great grandchildren. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Sunday from 2-8 PM. Visitation will continue after 10 AM on Monday in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 3934 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo where funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Ebeid Hospice 5200 Harroun Rd.
