Melvin Chester Pete Koch

Melvin “Pete” Chester Koch, 86, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born on September 30, 1932 in Sandusky, OH, the son of Albert and Ester (Sinwald) Koch. He attended St. Mary’s High School, where he played basketball. At the age of 17 Pete joined the U. S. Navy and then he joined the U. S. Army in 1952, where he served two years in Korea as a Sergeant. On November 08, 1952, he married his first wife, Clarie J. McAfee and together they had seven children, she preceded him in death on October 05, 1985. In 1990 he married Sandra (English) Phillips and she survives. Pete was a finish carpenter starting his working career at the Matthews Boat Co, then Gem Beach Marina and then ending his working career at the Port Clinton Lumber Co. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. As a young man he loved hunting and fishing with his brothers. Pete loved to bowl and play cards. He and Sandra loved fishing on their boat and enjoying Lake Erie. He cherished time with family, friends and walking his dog Macie. Pete was a long time member of the American Legion Post #113, David W. Leonard Aerie #2295, Elks Lodge #1718 and Moose Lodge #1610. Those left to cherish his memory are: Wife: Sandra Koch; Sons: Randy Koch, Kevin Koch and Jerry (Robin) Koch; Step-Son: Alan (Kara) Wyckoff ; Daughters: Beverly (Don) Miller, Janine (David) Howell and Vicki Snyder; 16 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren; Brother-In-Law: David (Evelyn) McAfee. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son: Tim and all six of Pete’s siblings. Visitation will be 2-6pm, Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Family prayers at 9:30am, Monday, October 15, 2018 in the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial donations can be given to Friends of the Cemetery.
