Melvin J. “Smoky” Eischen, 90, of Moline passed away February 3, 2021. He was born on March 6, 1930 to Henry and Cecilia (Fleitz) Eischen in Oregon, OH. He was a lifelong member of Epiphany of the Lord – Sacred Heart Parish and a member of Greater Toledo Orchid Society, Knights of Columbus – 4th degree, and American Legion Genoa Post 324. As an employee of LOF for 40 years, he was also a member of the Glass Workers Local 9. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Corporal in communications. He was an award-winning woodworker, a gardener with a love for orchids, and a farmer. A favorite pastime of his was sitting on the back porch watching his garden, flowers, and numerous fruit trees grow while enjoying a good cigar. He is survived by his children, Lynn (Lloyd) Smith, Audrey Mohr, Marian (Edward) Bergner, Elaine (David) Jaksetic, Gregory (Diane), Gary, and Loraine (Michael) Pietrzak; brothers, Norman (Virginia), Raymond (Linda), Bernard; brother-in-law, Jack Mangas; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Melvin is preceded in death by Annamarie, his wife of 66 years; parents; son-in-law, Daniel Mohr; brothers, Kenneth, Ralph, and James; sisters, Evelyn, Gladys, Betty, Theresa, and Rita. Family and friends will be received Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home Oregon Chapel on Navarre Avenue. The Knights of Columbus will conduct services and recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2021 at Epiphany of the Lord – Sacred Heart Parish with visitation one hour before. Per Pandemic protocols, facial coverings are required at all services and social distancing should be observed. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery with military graveside services conducted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epiphany of the Lord – Sacred Heart Parish, NW Ohio Hospice, any Veterans Organization, or donor’s choice.
