Melvern F. Mitchell III, 81, of Toledo, Ohio died Monday, October 05, 2015 at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. He was born in Muncie, IN. on July 30, 1934 to Melvern and Lela (Hope) Mitchell II. Melvern played football at Scott High School and was part of the Football City Championship Team in 1950. He graduated in 1952 and married his sweetheart, Joyce Williman on August 2, 1958. Melvern proudly served in the United States Army. Melvern worked for 31 years as a Millwright for AP Parts Corp. retiring in 1984. He was a longtime active member of Calvary Church in Maumee. He enjoyed football, baseball and softball and was an umpire for youth and adult games. Melvern was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. Melvern is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Mitchell; sons, Melvern C. (Lee) Mitchell of Ft. Myers, FL. and Mickey (Stacey) of Perrysburg, OH; grandchildren, David Allred, Robin G., Gracie, Jack, Nathan and Sophie Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Jimmy Mitchell and infant daughter, Robin A. Mitchell. Friends will be received at Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St. Perrysburg (419-874-2541) on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM. Where a memorial service will begin at 1 PM.
