Melissa (Pinkert) Jackson
Melissa (Pinkert) Jackson, age 45, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on October 22, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
If you knew Melissa, you knew her smile. You knew that infectious laugh, the sparkle in her eyes, and the way she could make you laugh without even trying. Funny, incredibly smart, and loving, Melissa was full of personality and truly one of a kind.
Above all, Melissa loved being a mom. Her daughter, Karis, was her pride and joy, and some of her most treasured moments were spent enjoying life's simple pleasures together. Whether going strawberry picking, heading out for a run, taking walks at Wildwood, or simply enjoying each other's company, it was these everyday moments that meant the most to her. Her love for Karis was at the heart of her life.
Family was always deeply important to Melissa, and she shared an especially close bond with her parents. She also cherished her trips back to Buffalo, where she enjoyed reconnecting and spending time with extended family.
From her days as a high school cheerleader and talented violinist, Melissa brought energy, intelligence, and determination to the things she loved. She later moved to San Diego, where she embraced the beauty of the area and began a new chapter of her life. It was there that she welcomed her daughter, Karis, into the world, beginning the role she would cherish most, being a mom.
Strong-willed, determined, and deeply intelligent, Melissa faced life's challenges with a strength and resilience admired by those who loved her. Her determination was also reflected in her decision to return to school, where she completed her education as an occupational therapy assistant. She went on to work with older adults, finding genuine fulfillment in helping them navigate everyday challenges and maintain their independence. It was work she truly enjoyed, and through which she made a meaningful difference in the lives of those she cared for. She also had a genuine passion for cooking, nutrition, health, and fitness, reflecting her interest in living well and caring for others.
Melissa is survived by her beloved daughter, Karis Jackson; parents, Jeff and Kathy Pinkert; sister, Tarah Pinkert; aunts and uncles, Chris (Renee) Pinkert, Lynn (Jamie) Siejak, Glen (Kate) Pinkert, Maureen (Dave) Mondello, Jim (Janine) Oxley, and Kevin Oxley; along with many loving cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, including Kelly Kozak and the Acker family.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jack and Lori Pinkert, and maternal grandparents, James and Margaret Oxley.
Although her family wishes they had more time with her, they will forever carry the laughter, love, and memories she gave them. Melissa will be remembered for her beautiful smile, quick wit, remarkable strength, and the love she had for those closest to her. She was truly one of a kind, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Melissa on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Walker Funeral Home 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. in Toledo. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 6:00 p.m.
