Melinda L Leithead Johnston

Melinda L. (Leithead) Johnston, 79, of Perrysburg, Ohio died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in New York, New York on June 14, 1940 to Barry T. and Alberta (Hamilton) Leithead. She graduated from the Hewitt School in Manhattan and attended St. Lawrence University. Melinda married her college sweetheart, Robert D. Johnston on September 1, 1961 in Scarsdale, NY. While living in Toledo she was active in the Junior League, Perrysburg Athletic Boosters, NW Ohio TAIL Tennis, Toledo District Golf Association and The University of Toledo Rocket Club. She was also a long time member and served on many boards and committees at Belmont Country Club. Melinda was an avid reader, tennis player, golfer and enjoyed bowling with the Belmont Bowling Belles. She was an enthusiastic sports fan who especially loved watching both in person and live streaming her grandchildren games. She also loved animals and was known to bring strays to join her family. Melinda was a wonderful friend to many. A true Lady, someone to be admired, who was funny, compassionate, kind, generous, and who lived and loved life her way. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in- law, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who will be greatly missed. Melinda is survived by her husband, Robert D. Johnston; son, Barry (Molly) Johnston; daughter, Morgan (John) Earl; grandchildren, Robert Johnston, Daniel Johnston, Baker Earl, Maxwell Johnston and Maxine Earl; brother, Roger B. Leithead; sisters, Ann Hughes and Winnifred Leithead, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Memorial Service for Melinda will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to Grace United Methodist Church, Perrysburg. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
