Mel Rothlisberger

ROTHLISBERGER Mel Mel Rothlisberger, age 65, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 at his home in Sylvania, OH. Mel was born in Elgin, IL on December 10, 1943 to Herman and Vivian Rothlisberger and he grew up in Plato Center, IL. After receiving his bachelors degree from Northwestern University in Business Administration, Mel married Carlyn Ruth in Hampshire, IL. Mel served in the US Army as Lieutenant with the 5th and 83rd Artillery and Missile Division in Baumholder, Germany. After being honorably discharged, Mel and his wife moved to Toledo, OH where Mel joined the Dana Corporation as an internal auditor. In Ft. Wayne, IN he completed his masters degree at Indiana University in Business Administration. Mels career with Dana moved him and his young family throughout the Midwest before he settled in the Toledo area with Danas Corporate Office as Director of International Finance and Assistant Treasurer in 1982. He remained with Dana for 37 years retiring in 2005 as Vice-President of Corporate Audit. Mel enjoyed golfing, bicycling, reading, and most of all, spending time with his three beautiful grandchildren. After his retirement, Mel and Carlyn traveled throughout the world, exploring different countries and cultures. He was a longtime member of Sylvania United Church of Christ and was Chairman of the Dana Retiree Committee. Mel served on the board of Promedica and was a member and former President of the Financial Executives Institute. Mel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carlyn; daughters, Marti Randy Hunyor and Nicole Mike Leslie; grandchildren, Gabriel, Izabel, and Sam; mother, Vivian; and sister, Linda Bob Pulk. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman. Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2008 from 4-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie St., Sylvania, OH.
