Maxine L. Stephens

June 7, 1935 — December 15, 2023

Maxine Stephens, age 88, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio after a short illness. Maxine was born in Holland, Ohio on June 7, 1935 to her loving parents, Max and Elizabeth Albon.

Maxine attended Holland High School and graduated in 1953. While in high school she loved marching in the band, playing her saxophone, and showing her talents as a majorette and cheerleader.

Maxine was a former member of Holland United Methodist Church and a current member of

Church of St. Andrew United Methodist. She was a devoted Christian. She loved praising God by singing in the choir. She also used her gifts of sewing and crafting to support many children at vacation bible school with their craft sessions. She also created banners for the church with her beautiful sewing skills.

Maxine’s love for music also shined as she was a soloist for many weddings and church services. She participated as a member of the Eastern Star and Dendera Chorus. You would often find her humming and singing when spending time with her.

Maxine was an avid sports fan. She faithfully cheered on the Washington Redskins, and the University of Michigan. However, most important to her was cheering on and supporting her family in their sporting events over the years. Maxine also enjoyed playing sports herself - she participated in a bowling league for many years and was a golfer.

Maxine and her husband Bob (1922-2015) spent a wonderful 51 years together. They shared their love for our country spending a short portion of their lives in Washington, DC. They also shared their love for dogs. Bob and Maxine had many poodles over the years. Maxine leaves behind her most recent best friend Archie, a mini golden doodle.

Maxine enjoyed traveling. She particularly loved traveling with Bob to Hawaii and Alaska. Maxine loved to be by the ocean. She traveled every year to Corolla, North Carolina enjoying the ocean views and close time with her family completing puzzles and playing games.

Maxine will be missed dearly. We will miss her smile, laughter, and her unending love and support. The positive words of encouragement that she gave so generously to all of us. Her willingness to help in any way that she could and at any time we needed her. We will miss her delicious cookies that she poured so much love into baking and sharing with family and friends. We will miss having our family seamstress who could fix anything for us. Our worlds will forever have a missing piece, but we know that we will all be together again in heaven. Until then we will remember her fondly and live life just as she did full of love, laughter, and joy.

Surviving is her grandson, Brian (Jennifer) Stephens; great-grandchildren, Calvin and Kathy Stephens; sister, Mary (Steve) Albon-Brown; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Kirwan Graham, Michael (Jamie) Albon, Bradley (Sherry) Albon, Ivy (Josh) Russell, Sadie (Richard) Browne, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Col. Robert C Stephens; stepson Robert C. Stephens Jr.; brother, H. Lawrence Albon; sister-in-law, L. Suzanne Albon and many beloved friends.
