Mauricio Alberto Mendez

Dr. Mauricio Alberto Méndez, 54, resident of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away from Leukemia on April 15th, 2014. He was born on December 17th, 1959 in Bogotá, Colombia to Blas Alfonso and Ana Sofía Méndez, as the fourth of five children. Mauricio was a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 1986 as an M.D., and he took great pride and joy in his work. He was an avid gastronome and wine connoisseur who also enjoyed walking, reading, conversing, and watching soccer at his leisure. He was a very spontaneous person, high spirited, quick with a joke, and always did things ‘his’ way. He participated in mission trips to Central America, which allowed him to give back to people less fortunate than himself. He was a rock for his family, good friend, passionate teacher, and a great father whom will be greatly missed. Mauricio is survived by his loving wife, Laurie A. Méndez; sons, Mauricio A. Méndez and Santiago Méndez; father, Blas A. Méndez; siblings, Mariella, Alfonso, Nelson and Maryluz; as well as, nieces, nephews, stepdaughters, and aunt Tía Lucerito. Friends will be received on Friday April 18th, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419)874-3133.
