Matthew Bates Kelly, age 60, of Toledo, died April 14, 2024, at St. Vincent/Mercy Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1963, in Rochester, New York. Matt graduated from Toledo St. John’s High School before attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He went on to graduate from the University of Toledo with a bachelor’s degree in finance, playing on the tennis team while at UT.
Matt was employed as an account manager and project coordinator for several area automotive and glass related companies throughout his career. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, particularly at Belmont Country Club and fishing excursions to Maine. An avid sports fan, he loved to watch baseball, the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Vikings, and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes football team. He found great joy in the tailgate and wine trips with the Group. A car enthusiast, Matt liked to tinker in his garage. As a strong Irishman, he had a dry wit, was extremely loyal, and family was of utmost importance to him.
Left to cherish Matt’s memory are his wife, Sandy; mother, Rita Kelly; children, Brad Kelly, Allison (Noah) Burnett, and Ryan Kelly; brother, Chris (Toni) Kelly; grand-pets, Walter and Polly; mother-in-law, Anne Bradley, aunt, Nancy Haas; his wife’s siblings, Susan (Steven) Zirkel, Brian (Susan) Bradley, and Elizabeth (Jeff) Gilley; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kelly; father-in-law, Richard Bradley; uncle and dear friend, Gary Haas.
Family and friends are invited to visit the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Please join the family to share Matt’s story and celebrate his life. The burial will take place at Toledo Memorial Park.
