Mary Ann Wingate

Wingate Mary Ann Ashman Mary Ann Wingate, age 70, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009, after a long battle with cancer, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Mary Ann was born in Toledo on November 10, 1938 to Harry and Alma Ashman. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1956, working for the athletic department while attending classes. While at DeVilbiss she also participated in the Pay-El-Sa service club. After high school, Mary Ann worked for Ohio Bell in the accounting department. She married John Wingate August 29, 1959 at St. Pius Catholic Church. After raising their family, Mary Ann returned to school to become a dental assistant and worked for Dr. George Black and Dr. Ned Hein for 35 years. She was a member of Gesu Catholic Church for nearly 50 years and was very active in the parish community while her children attended school there and later as a funeral luncheon volunteer. Mary Ann was an avid bowler, often bowling in several leagues at one time, including the League at Gesu. She was a longtime member of the Toledo Zoo and Colonial Williamsburg. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Wingate; children, Michael Tracie, Gregory, and Diane Tony Yost; grandchildren, Tiffanie and Tim Wingate, and Lindsey and Christopher Yost; and her beloved golden retriever, Annie. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, George Betty and Harry Joan Ashman. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-9:00 pm with a Scripture Service at 7:30 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday with prayers at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. Toledo, OH 43607.
