Mary Emily Wilson, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Holland on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The daughter of Robert and Parilee Thorton Pyles, she was born on August 12, 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama. A graduate of Scott High School, Mary enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. She loved to listen to Christian Music and doing Find A Word puzzles. Mary was an avid traveler and enjoyed having her picture taken. She was the first African American to take the Civil Service test and to work at the court house as a stenographer. Mary was a member of the First Church of God. She is survived by her loving family; children, Parilee Patty Price, Phyllis Gregory Keith, Esther Brad Stewart and Richard Diane Wilson; grandchildren, Mary Price, Eric Wilson, Bryan Melanie Miller, Vincent Becky Miller, Jason Venecia Stewart, Raquel Todd Lindroth, and Ahmad Kynard; great-grandchildren, Parrish, Emmanuel, Branden, Alex, Nathan, Kyra, Cameron, Jordan, Trey, Javon, and Sania; great-great-grandchild, Jaden; sister, Margaret Wood; special nieces, Juanita Wilson, Dorothy Griffin and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman; parents and sisters, Sadie and Dorothy. Friends and family may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Sunday, August 21 from 4 to 6 pm and a wake service on Monday at the church from 10 am until 11 am. Funeral Services will be on Monday, August 22 at 11 am at the First Church of God, at Collingwood and Central Ave., with Rev. Robert Culp officiating. Interment will be at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
