Mary A. Wells, 104, of Holland, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024. She was born in East Fork, North Dakota on July 20, 1919, to Sebastian and Mary (Weist) Bartsch. Mary was a longtime beautician working at various shops in the Toledo area, including Teidtke’s. In April of 1944, she married the love of her life, Kermit Wells, whom she spent over 68 wonderful years with before his passing.
Known for her green thumb, Mary had a beautiful vegetable and flower garden, which she tended to herself well past the age of 100. She was a skilled Tripoley player. She and Kermit would attend monthly card parties with friends for as long as they were able. Mary also enjoyed trips to the casino, staying for as long as she could. Mary was also an avid baseball fan, rooting for the Cleveland Guardians every chance she had. In addition, Mary loved talking about politics. This is an area that she always had a passion for. Mary also never turned down the chance to go out to dinner. A few of her favorite restaurants included Bob Evans, Olive Garden, and Classic Cafe. Despite this fact, Mary greatly enjoyed cooking and baking. Her baked chicken and molasses cookies were irresistible, never to be matched.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Desiree (Ernest) Goldsmith; son, Ron Wells; grandchildren Erica (Zachary) Young, Janis Wells, William Wells, and Ronald Wells Jr., as well as many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Wells and son, George Wells.
Visitation will take place Friday, February 16, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623.
