Mary L. Veselka

Mary L. Veselka, 85, of Walbridge, OH passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She was born on September 15, 1932 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Adrian and Ruth (Lavoy) Burt. She married in 1950, had a daughter Ruth, and divorced in 1952. In 1954, she married Joseph Veselka and they had three children: Laura, Joseph and Mary. She was known for her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren going so far as to directly raise some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a quintessential and perpetual Mother for over 66 years. Mary had a deep faith which sustained her over the years. She was a member of Mainstreet Church and a faithful volunteer over the years most notably in the Giving Center where she spent many hours in the company of lifelong friends, many times having a great grandchild by her side. Waitress, Seamstress, Babysitter, Piano Teacher, Mary did whatever she could to help make ends meet as she raised her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was actively involved in many school and scouting activities as they grew up and always welcomed their friends in her home. Mary was a very loving and compassionate person who continually put the needs of others first. She was a great cook and also loved being outside tending her flower gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, daughter, Laura Veselka Barrett, grandson Andrew Arthur Pochadt; granddaughter Kari Rose Veselka. She is survived by daughter Ruth (Todd) Pochadt; son Joseph (Barbara) Veselka; daughter Mary (William) Wisniewski; grandchildren: Kendra Pochadt; Lindsay Derryberry, Michael, Melissa and William Aspinwall; Sarah, Stephanie and Katherine Veselka and step grandchildren-Jennifer (Darrell) McCaul and John (Missie) Huff; Rachael Moore, Jennifer Veselka and Joe Wisniewski; and great grandchildren: Tonya, Racquel, Leona, Yvonne, Alexander, Audy, Robert, Benjamin, Teagan and Charlotte. The funeral service will be at Mainstreet Church, 5465 Moline-Martin Rd. Walbridge, Ohio on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. preceded by one hour of visitation. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Mainstreet Church or Promedica Ebeid Hospice of Sylvania who enabled her to leave this life for the next so peacefully. Mary will be missed by all those who knew her. Arrangements are entrusted to the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Walbridge, Ohio.
