Mary Eileen Towse, age 85 of Toledo, passed away suddenly on January 26, 2017. She was born May 28, 1931 in Toledo to Michael and Mary (Traynor) Hoban. A graduate of St. Ursula Academy and Mary Manse College, she continued on to earn multiple Masters Degrees in Education from the University of Toledo. She was a lifelong learner and educator, attending summer programs at both the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford (England) as well as the University College Dublin. Her patient teaching style touched the lives of elementary students and adults, especially those with special needs. She served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and was recognized for her devotion to children and families. Recently, Eileen volunteered for the Abilities Center and the Read for Literacy program. She was an avid reader and writer. Her dedicated involvement in the arts included The Toledo Opera and The Two Toledos. Eileen was a faith-filled member of St. Joseph’s Parish and a founding member of the church choir. She also sang and travelled with the Toledo Diocesan Choir. Eileen married Donald Towse in 1956 and they shared 42 wonderful years together until his death in 1998. She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter Kathleen Whitley and her husband David of Debary Florida, her son Matthew and his wife Kelly and their sons Alec and Will of Scarborough, Maine, her daughter Mary Beck and her children Michael, Hayley and Jamie of Kensington, New Hampshire and her caring sister Frances Hopkins of Orange City Florida. Eileen had many close friends and family in the Toledo area. She was giving with her time and talents, and left all whose lives she touched better off for knowing her. Friends may visit the family on Monday from 5:00-9:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) where funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Sylvania. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Central City Ministries, 1119 W. Bancroft St. Toledo, Ohio 43606.
