Mary G Stephenson

November 8, 1943 — April 24, 2015

Mary Stephenson died peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, with the loving and compassionate care of the hospice staff. Mary was born Goshen, Indiana November 8,1943 to Willis George and Vey Avis (Tumbleson) Stephenson. She graduated from Herron School of Art in Indianapolis Indiana. After college she started a career in graphic arts. She initially worked for Hallmark in Kansas City, and later drew fashion designs for major department stores including Pennys and Lazarus. Mary continued in sales and advertising living in Milwaukee Wisconsin and then retiring, after many years with Nationwide Insurance in Columbus Ohio. She also created a line of vintage portraits she coined Dancing Dolly Prints, including Charlie Chaplain, Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and many others. For the past ten years, Mary had lived in Toledo to be close to family. Her health continued to decline as she suffered from Dementia. Mary always said when she went to heaven she would paint cats. She had many of them during her lifetime and was a lover of all animals. A few of her favorites were Pixie Pops, Miss Poops and Hillary Rotten Kitten. Always creative, Mary would hang her Christmas tree upside down from the ceiling to keep it away from her cats. A sports enthusiast, Mary supported the Buckeyes, especially the womens basketball team. A highlight vacation was attending the Atlanta Olympic games. She liked to tell people that she played professional football for Columbus Jet Setters. The smallest woman on the team, she was the backup quarterback. She admitted, We werent very good. Mary loved people, travel, dancing, and her family. We will remember her laugh and her spirit. Surviving Mary are her sister Carla (Jim) Goodenough, niece Kristie Dubois (Roland Skeel), nephew Jim (Cathy) Goodenough, and great nieces Jessica, Stefany Rose, and Cecilia. Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Thanks to all of her caregivers at Parkcliffe Community, Kingston of Perrysburg Memory Care Unit, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
