Mary Sue Snyder

Mary Sue Snyder, age 79, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at Hampton Manor of Bedford.

Born December 30, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Dean and Mary (Weber) Behrendsen. On August 9, 1968, she married James Michael Snyder in New Haven, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2011.

Mary graduated from Bremen High School in 1964 and earned her degree in English Education from Indiana University in 1968. She briefly taught high school English before devoting herself to raising her two sons, Jeremy and Spencer. Some of her fondest memories were from the early years of her marriage while living in Hampton, Virginia.

Mary enjoyed crafting, gardening, reading, word puzzles, and spending time with her family and pets. She especially cherished volunteering at her sons' elementary schools when they were young. An avid collector, she had a special love for dolls and amassed a collection of hundreds over the years. She also enjoyed creating her own dolls and painting porcelain figurines with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and her son, Spencer, who passed away in July 2009.

Mary is survived by her son, Jeremy (Jessica) Snyder; her beloved grandchildren, Asher, Piper, and Zander; and sister Sheree Behrendsen of Angola, Indiana.

Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home in Toledo, OH on Wednesday, June 3, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County Humane Society or Donate Life America in lieu of flowers.

Mary will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, devotion to her family, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
