MARY J. SMART Mary J. Smart left this world on February 27, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice. She entered this world on December 21, 1926, born to Maude (Dunaway) and Newton Webb. The fourth of seven children, Ruth, Lucille, Bob, Jim, John and Steven---all deceased. Mary graduated from Holland High School in May of 1945. Her life began on June 30, 1945 when she married Elden Smart. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years before his death on July 17, 1997. They have two children, Linda (Hank) Sampsel and Tommy (Linda, deceased) Smart; three loving grandchildren, Patrick (Dianna) Sampsel; Brian Sampsel and Wendy (Ray) Garniss, along with 6 great grandchildren. Mary worked at Hilfinger Corp. for many years and she retired from the cafeteria at Sylvania Northview in 1987, one day after Elden retired from Start High School. She enjoyed gambling (never met a slot machine she didn’t like) as well as spending summers on Drummond Island. Family and friends will be welcomed on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland 9419-865-8879) from 2-6 pm with a memorial service beginning at 4:30 pm. The family would like to thank Promedica Hospice for their excellent care, especially Sandy and Angela.
