Mary B. Pokorny, 89, formerly of Genoa, Ohio, died at her sons residence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Mary was born May 20, 1922, in Polk County, Illinois, to Jacob N. and Clara L. Sidener Hogan. On June 5, 1950, in Angola, Indiana, she married Frank J. Pokorny, who preceded her in death August 10, 1992. Mary worked at the former Dunns in Genoa and retired after 15 years in housekeeping at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon. She was a spitfire for life and loved children. She enjoyed playing Bingo, dancing and working in the yard. Mary is survived by her son, Frank Anne D. Pokorny of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, sister, Louise Stowers of Arizona and Robert Hogan of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Howard, and Cecil Hogan, Ethel Mae Hogan, Jean Maples, and Peggy English. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011, in Clay Township Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials for Mary to UNC Hospice, 480 Hillsboro St., Pittsboro, NC 27312, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
