Mary Lou Nichol, 90, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Elizabeth Scott Community. She was born on February 26, 1926 in Baxter, Iowa to Nolan and Ada (Holtsclaw) Schmidt and she married Marvin Ray Nichol on November 21, 1942 in Manhattan, Kansas. Mary Lou was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa for many years. She farmed in Newton from 1947 to 1982 and worked for Brookwood Plumbing and Heating, Maytag Blue Cheese, Coast to Coast Hardware and Windpower Manufacturing, before moving to Maumee in 1995. Mary Lou was a wonderful quilter and knitter, she enjoyed making quilts for all of her family and friends. She was a brilliant piano player, and was fondly known as the “Piano Lady” when she would play for nursing homes. Mary Lou is survived by her loving children; Douglas R. (Suzanne) Nichol and Dixie L. (Richard) Bonte; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and sister, Nina (Bill) Page. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nolan and Ada; husband, Marvin and 2 siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Elizabeth Scott Community staff for their exceptional care and compassion for Mary Lou. Funeral services will be private.
