Mary Elizabeth Lucius

May 1, 1951 — Aug 12, 2026

Mary Elizabeth Lucius, 75, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, went home to her final reward on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 due to complications from her courageous seven-year battle with cancer. She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, on May 1, 1951, to Leo and Elizabeth (Kleinfelter) Lucius.

Mary graduated from Lakota High School in 1969. She went on to earn a degree in registered nursing from Owens Community College and worked as an RN in the Emergency Department at Riverside Hospital for 40 years. She finished her career at St. Vincent Endocrinology Juvenile Diabetes Clinic.

During this time, Mary was also a foster mother through Lucas County Children Services, where she fostered, fell in love with, and adopted her beloved son, Dan. He preceded her in death.

Mary was an avid fan of Oak Harbor Athletics. In retirement, she became a substitute school bus driver and often drove the teams to away games. To keep busy in the summer, she worked for the Jet Express.

Mary was community-minded. She was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she volunteered as a teacher's aide at the school, sang in the choir, and helped with church fundraisers.

Mary will be remembered as a strong woman, both physically and morally. She was a loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt and, most importantly, mother.

Mary is survived by her siblings Janet, Karen, Brenda, Larry, and David (Jane) Lucius and cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Daniel Joseph Lucius; her sister, Rose Ann (James) Kessler; her nephew, Tony Kessler; and dear friend Sonia Eischen.
