Mary Ann Lauer

February 23, 1936 — April 28, 2022

Mary Ann Lauer passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.

She was a devoted wife of Robert Lauer, whom she married in 1985; as well as the loving mother of Tami Rockwell; grandmother to twins, Alexandra and Alyssa Huebner. She is also survived by a brother, Charles Walter, of Findlay; and a sister, Ruth (Jerry) Franz, of Hancock County; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles F and Anna (Beach) Walter; and brother, Robert (Janet) Walter.

Mary Ann was born on the family farm, an original land grant from the Revolutionary War, near Rawson, Ohio in 1936. She attended grade school in Rawson and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Corey-Rawson High School in 1954. From 1954 to 1958 she attended classed in Secretarial Science and Notary Public at BGSU. She moved to Toledo in 1959 and worked at the Ottawa River Paper Co. as secretary to the President. From 1965 to 1975 she worked in various volunteer positions, including as a docent at the Toledo Art Museum. From 1980 to 2001, she was enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, Adult Studies and Computer Science at the University of Toledo. Mary Ann obtained a Real Estate License in 1981 and worked in the field until her marriage to Mr. Lauer. In 1991 she became an accredited Interior Designer. She had been very active in Questers for many years and was President of the Towpath Chapter in 2006.

From 1981 through 2000 Mary Ann and her husband traveled extensively through the United States, Europe, Japan and Africa. She had become a self-educated expert in Genealogy and had researched and documented her family histories as far back as the 16 th century, establishing membership in the DAR in the process. She has always been an accomplished gardener and has created exquisite landscapes and gardens at her home. Her love for and guidance to her granddaughters has brightened her life since their birth

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Walker Funeral Home, Holland-Springfield Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, OH 43528. Funeral services will be held following the visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will be held privately in Joy Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mary Ann’s name may be directed to her wonderful caregivers of the last 4 years, Mary Keys and Martha Odom. Mary and Martha were a blessing to mothers care the last four years of her life. Mother got Covid in 2020 and they stayed with her through thick and thin, thanks to their excellent care, nurturing and compassion. She loved them dearly. And they loved her.
