Mary Sue Kobil, a kind and gentle soul who was loved by all who knew her, passed away in the early morning hours of July 4, 2024. A devout Catholic, she had an enormous influence on her children, teaching by example and always offering support. More recently, she dearly loved spending time with her three wonderful grandchildren.
Born on May 11, 1946, at Toledo’s Mercy Hospital, she graduated from St. Jude School, St. Ursula Academy and studied at the University of Toledo. She and Gerald Kobil married in 1973. As an attorney/CPA, Gerald had several clients in Florida and the two of them commuted for four decades between homes in Perrysburg and Florida, where their two children established residence and started families.
She had a passionate love of travel (especially cruises) and thoroughly enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, spending time at shows and slot machines. At home, Mary Sue was a dedicated gardener, shopper, avid reader and baker, known for her delicious cookies as well as her famous cheesecake. She and her friends formed an informal “lunch bunch” which met often for meals and conversation. Mary Sue enjoyed bright colored flowers, sauvignon blanc wine and was a collector of antique purses.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Gerald; daughter, Karen (John) Morgan of Tampa; son, Christopher (Karina) Kobil of St. Petersburg; brother, Michael Zapiecki; and sister-in-law, Diane Fredrick of Denver. Also missing her will be grandchildren, Henry Morgan and Cormac Morgan of Tampa, Mateo Kobil of St. Petersburg; Barb Smith, her very best friend of many decades and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Edward J and Margaret Zapiecki; daughter, Cindy Kobil; and brother, Thomas E Zapiecki.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital Perrysburg, Mercy St. Vincent Toledo and Hospice of NW Ohio Perrysburg for their compassionate care.
