Mary Kathleen "Kay" Ketelaar

Mary Kathleen "Kay" Ketelaar, 79, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on July 13, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert and Geraldine McCarthy.

Kay graduated from Dominican High School in 1965 and went on to attend Nursing School and earned her degree from the University of Toledo. She devoted 34 years of her life to serving others through her career with Lucas County Children's Services, retiring in 2008.

Kay treasured her time with family and friends and especially enjoyed traveling. Among her favorite memories were cruises and spending time in Northern Michigan and Mexico. She embraced life with warmth, generosity and a genuine appreciation for the people around her.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Geraldine McCarthy; her sister, Patty; her brother, Mick; and her beloved daughter, Elise Noel.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank Ketelaar; her brothers, Bob (Cathy) McCarthy and Terry (Rosalie) McCarthy; her son, Keith (Cindy) Ketelaar; and her two cherished grandchildren, Myla and Dylan Ketelaar. She will also be lovingly remembered by extended family and many dear friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Kay's greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the memories she created with those closest to her, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home from 4 pm to 7 pm in Maumee, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on October 7, 2026 at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay's honor to the American Heart Association.

Kay will be deeply missed and forever loved.
