We celebrate the life of Mary Adella Jadwisiak who left us for the loving arms of our Lord on August 7, 2021, at the age of 100. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, sister and friend – known for sharing favorite sayings, a song, or general words of wisdom with her trademark feistiness and sense of humor. Adella was born on May 19, 1921 and raised by loving parents Senke and Freida Ewersen, both German immigrants. They lived on Johnson’s Island until Adella was school age, when they moved to the mainland in Port Clinton. She graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1939. She was a first-generation college graduate, receiving a Bachelor’s of Education from University of Toledo in 1944. As a young teacher, Adella boarded a train to Fort Morgan, Colorado, sight unseen, for her first year of teaching. She also taught in Wyandotte, Michigan, Port Clinton, Ohio, and then 25 years at Danbury Elementary where she retired in 1983. Adella was married to Chester “Chet” Jadwisiak on June 21, 1947. She is survived by her children Jerry Alan Jadwisiak (wife Blanca), David John Jadwisiak (wife Barb) and Jan Adel Jadwisiak-Barnes (husband Gary), 7 grandchildren, 6.89 great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Chet, preceded her in death in 1987. Adella had a love for teaching and a soft spot for second graders that needed more love than they got at home. She valued reading and generally assumed smart, successful adults would’ve been in her second grade “upper reading group”. An active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Adella sang in the church choir for many decades. She had a passion for travelling, visiting her children and relatives across the country and touring Europe, Hong Kong, Barbados, Canada and Alaska. As the busy wife of a fruit farmer, she always prepared a large, communal Sunday meal for all of the workers. And for her grandchildren, she was known to have sloppy joes and fresh cookies ready when they arrived on their annual summer treks to see Grandma. Friends and family are invited to join the family for visitation at Gerner-Wolf Walker funeral home on Wednesday, August 11 from 4:00 – 8:00pm and funeral/celebration of life at Peace Lutheran Church in Port Clinton on Thursday, August 12 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, please remember Adella with a donation to Danbury Elementary (for reading programs) or Ida Rupp Library Public Libraries in Port Clinton.
