Mary Jane Harmeyer

Mary Jane (Schimming) Harmeyer, 90, of Genoa, passed away on August 31, 2026, at home. She was born on September 20, 1935, in Williston, Ohio, to the late Lester and Cora (Dehn) Schimming.

Mary attended Genoa Area Local Schools and graduated as co-valedictorian in 1953. Before having children, she worked as a secretary for the Toledo Edison Engineering Department, after which she spent years doing the office work for the family's construction business. Later she began working as a secretary for 24 years at the Genoa Area Local Schools in the Board Office before retiring.

Throughout her life, Mary found joy in many of life's simple pleasures. She devoted her life to her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved cooking for her family. Above all, Mary had a generous heart and was happiest when she was doing something for someone else. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and willingness to help others were a reflection of the love she had for those around her and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Mary cherished the friendships she formed throughout her life. A favorite memory of hers was being one of the "4 M's" at the Genoa Schools Board Office: Mary Jane, Mary Lou, Mary Ann, and Maxine. The four women shared a special bond that Mary treasured throughout her life.

Mary is survived by her children, Beth (Harmeyer) Johnson and John W. (Deb) Harmeyer; grandchildren, Melissa, Travis, Amanda (Kurtis), Kara (Branden), and Andrea (Alan); great-grandchildren, Noah, Taryne, Carlissa, Anslee, Hattie, Otto, Adleigh, Sutton, Aiden, and Emmett; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Schimming and JoElaine Schimming; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Harmeyer; her brothers, Milton Schimming and Kenneth Schimming; and her stepmother, Blanche Cashen Schimming.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's honor to St. John Lutheran Church, Williston; Luther Home of Mercy; and Allen-Clay Joint Fire District.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West Street, Genoa, OH. Funeral service is Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 21140 West Toledo Street, Williston, OH, where the family will greet friends after 10:00 AM. Procession to Clay Township Cemetery for internment to follow.
