Mary Jane was born in Chicago IL on October 13, 1927. She passed away on Friday May 17, 2019 at the age of 91. Her life was blessed with family and friends. Her memberships included St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for over 75 years, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Maumee Community Church. She was also proud of being part of the Top of the Hill Gang (Maumee High School Class of 1945). Mary Jane worked in finance and secretarial work most of her career retiring from Owen’s Community College Financial Aid department in 1991. She loved sports of all kinds following the Maumee Panthers, Ohio State Buckeye’s, Detroit Tigers and of course Duke Basketball. She took pride in the Maumee Little League that her family founded. Mary Jane enjoyed working puzzles and found a love for “Facebooking” the last several years informing all of her friends of the sports scores of the day and encouraging those in their Faith Walk. She also blessed many family and friends with hand made baby quilts over the years. She was blessed to live her last couple of years at Genesis Village and made an impact on the staff and residents there and enjoyed in participating in all the activities offered there. The last surviving child from the union of Charles and Grace Hoag, she was preceded in death by sisters Estell and Grace as well as brothers Charles (Bud), Lou, Steve, George, Orville, Robert, and Jack. Husbands Howard Abel in 1988 and Phillip Eding in 2018; Grandson Juston Fisher and nephew. Johnny Hoag. She is survived by her Children Donald (Elaine) Abel and daughter Mary Beth (Bill Gower) Abel and Phil’s children John (Debbie) Eding and Ellen (Eddie) Ledesma; grandchildren, Marna (Nick) Kern and Asa Abel, Jessica Fisher and Garrett (Crystal Wagener) Abel, Ilyana Martens, Ashley Hanicq and Mariah Hanicq, Tobiah (Kimberly) Ledesma, Julian (Kelsey) Ledesma, Sarah (Shawn McCarty) Ledesma; great Grandchildren, Ariel Logan (Antonio Pinto), Alex Purvis, Ian Purvis, Madalyn Abel, Rylee, Jaceylin, Bryce, Zayza and Keldryc Martens, Aubrey and Brantley Hanicq, Lilyana Ledesma, Autumn Ledesma, Owen and Grady Mc Carty, and great great grandson, Charlie Mulchaey-Purvis and great-great granddaughter on the way Violet Mulchaey-Purvis. Mary Jane also took care of over 40 foster babies in her home over the years. She is also survived by her Sisters in law, Phyliss Hoag, and her nephews Ron (Vicky), Robert (Noreen), Richard (Diane), and all of their children and grandchildren. The Jaessing Family, Phil’s siblings Patricia Heider, Duke (Deb) Eding, Jan Hoffman and many other Abel/ Eding/Ash nieces and nephews, and close friend Charmaine McClellan. A Celebration of Mary Jane’s live will take place at Genesis Village 2429 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo on June 23, 2019 at 2PM officiated by Pastor Paul Doerfler. (Please park and enter in the Event parking area with entrance off Heatherdowns Blvd.) Memorials may go to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee or the charity of your choice.
