Mary E. Wolfe

Mary E. (Rossfeld) Wolfe passed away peacefully at Otterbein Assisted Living on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 86. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine (Keith) Klewer of Oregon, OH, E. Joan Faneuff of Clyde, OH, and Barbara (Michael) Pappas of Oregon, OH, as well as her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Wolfe of Raleigh, NC. Mary had 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 2017, her son, Charles in February, 2023, and her son-in-law, Randy Faneuff in August, 2023.

Mary grew up in Lima, Ohio and attended Central Christian Church. She met John at Camp Christian and they married in 1958. They began their lives together in San Diego when John was stationed there with the Navy. They returned to Lima, Ohio, and raised 4 children. They built a cottage in Reading, Michigan, where the family enjoyed many summer weekends. Mary commuted to Bowling Green to complete her teaching degree. She taught fourth grade in Lima before they moved to Oregon, Ohio. She continued her teaching career at Genoa High School. They moved to Bedford, Ohio, for four years before returning to the Toledo area. Mary was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 16 in Lima, Ohio. She enjoyed golf, bowling, reading, and crafts, particularly knitting and counted cross stitch. Several members of the family treasure her afghans. She and John traveled in their RV and wintered in Florida for several years.

We will miss our mom and her positive attitude. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road in Toledo, with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Walker Funeral Home-Oregon Chapel is assisting the family.
