Mary Caroline Dimke, age 97, Temperance, Michigan, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2010. She was born in Emporia, Kansas, in 1912, to Carl Benjamin and Mabel Jane Roberts Haywood. She rode horses and was a childhood tennis champion in Emporia before she moved with her family to Michigan. She attended Michigan State University and worked as a social worker for a short time before she met and married John Henry Dimke. After she moved to Toledo, she and her husband, a pharmacist, owned a drug store for 14 years and eventually built apartment buildings. Upon retirement, she and her husband spent the winters and eventually all year in Arizona where she made many wonderful friends and played a mean game of golf and loved driving her red convertible. In 2001, she moved back to Toledo, after a short illness, to be near family. Through the years Mary drew great joy from traveling the world with family and friends, shopping and socializing. Her enthusiasm for life was evident with all Mary did. She was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church, Inverness Country Club and the Toledo Club and Palmbrook Country Club in Arizona. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania, Windhaven Eldercare of Temperance, Michigan and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all their wonderful care and concern. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Dimke and her sister, Elizabeth Cooper. Surviving is her daughter, Candy Mary Baker; grandchildren, Courtney Clay Bissett and Brandon Tara Baker and great-grandchildren, Cody, Hayley Baker, Camryn and Chase Bissett. A private family service was held.
