Mary Jo Davey, age 80 of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 25, 2021, after a long and courageous battle of colon cancer. She was born Aug 7, 1940 to Joe and Catherine (Ball) Brickner. She graduated high school from St. Ursula Academy, Toledo and then went on to attend BGSU where she studied Physical Education. On, Feb 11, 1961, she married Daniel Davey at St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg. Mary Jo worked at the Holiday Inn French Quarter for 43 years. Her career started before the “Inn” even opened their doors. She attended Holiday Inn University in TN and started as a second shift desk clerk and later was promoted to Front Desk Manager. Additional roles Mary Jo assumed were Personal Director, she worked in Sales and her final position was Concierge Manager. Many times during her employment, Mary Jo could be found filling in when the need arose. She worked as hostess of the Wooden Indian Restaurant and helped out as a banquet waitress for large functions. During the Blizzard of ’78, when so many of the Inn’s employees were “snow bound”, Mary Jo drove herself to work on her snowmobile! She was an original “fixture” of the French Quarter. Mary Jo and Dan both worked hard and enjoyed their life with family and friends. Early in their life, summers were spent at the softball fields and back yard pool parties. Mary Jo didn’t even let a “little pregnancy” stop her from playing in the state champion softball tournament in August of 1963! Two weeks later her daughter was born! Winters were spent snow skiing and snowmobiling in Michigan. Mary Jo even entered a snow skiing competition in New York and came in 2nd place. Bowling was another passion of Mary Jo. She belonged to the Toledo Women’s Bowling Association and was an officer for eight years. Mary Jo loved being around people! When she decided to be a consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics it was a match made in heaven. She especially loved attending the conventions in Dallas TX and loved having her own “Open Houses” for her friends. Later in life, as soon as the weather became warm, you could always find her on one of the many golf courses in the area. At one point, she golfed in three different golf leagues and was secretary in one of the leagues. She belonged to the Toledo Golf Club at Ottawa Park and was Treasurer for three years and Club Championship Chairman, Tournament Chair and Social chair for two years each. Both her and Dan were members of Tanglewood Golf Course and enjoyed playing in many of the club tournaments. After retiring, winters were spent vacationing at The Villages and Punte Gorda Florida. Mary Jo is survived by her son, Mike (Sue Snyder) Davey; daughter, Judy (Ron) King; granddaughter, Danielle Bunde; step-granddaughter, Michelle (Mike) Skidmore; step-grandson, Zack King; step-great granddaughter, Makayla (Brandon) Havens; step-great grandson, Micah Skidmore; step-great granddaughter, Leah Skidmor; step-great-great granddaughter, Vae Havens; niece, Jennie (Bill) Buckenberger; childhood friend, Nancy Haas; and her special canine companion, Emma. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years; and her sister, Romana (Mrackic – Brickner) Flint; and cousins, Suzy Launder, Judy Sundermeier. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 11, at 10:30 am at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front St., Perrysburg with a reception luncheon to immediately follow. Burial of the ashes will be private. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to make them to St. Rose Church, or to a charity of their choice. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care and love from the wonderful nursing staff at Bay Park Infusion Department and the care from Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A huge “thank you” to everyone that was able to stop and visit, share a story, or two, drink a chocolate martini, eat a piece of red velvet cake on Saturday, July 17th. What started out as “just a small party”, turned out to be a wonderful party with 76 people visiting that afternoon. What an amazing day! Sent from a friend and “oh how true”. “A very special lady, special wife, special mother, special relative and a very SPECIAL friend, and boy, she could talk to anyone and make a friend. There are no words in Webster’s dictionary that could describe your mom and my friend.”
