Mary Elizabeth Brown

July 27, 1925 — August 11, 2014

Mary Elizabeth Brown, age 89, passed away Monday Aug. 11, 2014 at Kingston Care of Sylvania.  The daughter of Stanley and Clara Hiett, she was born July 27, 1925 in Toledo.  She was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School.  She received a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan.  Beth married Charles Earl Brown on May 23, 1959 in Toledo.  She worked for Lucas County Juvenile Court as a Juvenile Court Referee retiring in 1960. Beth was a member of First Congregational Church, Junior League, Toledo Choral Society and the Toledo Bar Auxiliary.  She enjoyed bowling, sewing, cooking and maintained one of the best vegetable gardens.  She took great pride in the produce she grew and canned them so she could enjoy them throughout the year. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Cynthia) Brown, Rebecca Brown; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Brown, Matthew Douglas Brown, Lauren Elizabeth Brown; sister, Kathryn Kim Jordan; sister-in-law, Margaret Hiett; very special niece and caregiver, Susanne Shields and family Jeff and Rachel.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; brothers, Edward and Richard. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 4-7 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday.  Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wellesley College Scholarship Fund 106 Central Street Wellesley, MA 02481 or Schedel Arboretum and Gardens 19255 W. Portage River South Rd. Elmore, OH 43416.  Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.  The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston Care Center and the Woodlands for all their care and support.
