Mary E. Apel

Mary was born on a farm December 8th 1922 to parents Deloy and Hazel (Pilliod) Peters. She attended and graduated from Monclova grade and high school in 1940. She attended Toledo DeSale College, graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1944. On June 19th 1946 she married Joseph Tscherne in Maumee St. Joseph’s church. Her teaching school institutes include Pettisville, Good Shepherd, St. Thomas, St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns, St. Mary’s and St. Teresa’s as well as Toledo Public Chase Schools. She was very active at Good Shepherd church including Rosary-Altar Society, Liturgy Committee, Parish Council, Evangelization Committee R.C.I.A., Funeral dinners, Prayer Group, Bible Study, Renew, Synod, Eucharistic minister, Lector and Greeter. She was a member of Lucas County retired teachers and Ohio Teachers Association and St. Rose Senior citizens. She married her Monclova high school friend, Edward Apel on June 20th 1998. She passed away in Glendale, Arizona under hospice care. She will be laid to rest in Toledo Ohio where she lived for 84 of her years. She was quite well known for her sense of humor and will be dearly missed by family. Mary’s family who have proceeded her in death are her parents and only sister Martha, along with her two husbands; Joseph Tscherne and Edward Apel. Her two children Joanne Fitzpatrick and Patrick and one grandchild Brandi Anderson. Left to cherish her memory are her sons David (Becky) Tscherne and Stephen (Barbara) Tscherne, daughter Debora (Reed) Chaney, son in law John Fitzpatrick and step son Thomas Apel. She has 10 Grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Visitation services will be at Toledo Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home. Address 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon OH, 43616 Friday, from 2-8pm. Funeral service will be held Saturday at St. Rose Parish, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, OH, Mary will lie in state from 9:30 until the start of her service at 10:30 with burial at Calvary cemetery to follow. Due to flower allergies the family requests that any memorial donations be made to Helping Hands of St. Louis 443 6th Street, Toledo, OH 43605, or The Ursuline Convent of the Sacred Heart, 4045 Indian Road, Toledo, OH 43606, or Hospice of the Valley 9435 W. Peoria Ave, Peoria AZ 85345.
