Marvin “Putt” L. Thompson, 87, of Oak Harbor, Ohio passed away on December 31, 2021 surrounded by family at Elmwood Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Home in Fremont, Ohio. He was born in Oak Harbor on November 18, 1934, the son of Lester L. and Christine H. (Lorensen) Thompson. On April 28, 1956 at St. John Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor he married JoAnn A. (Michael) Thompson, who preceded him in death after almost 60 years of marriage. Marvin worked for Kelsey Hayes (also known as TRW) in Fremont, Ohio for 30 years. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin was a member of many community clubs and church groups over the years. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Fremont, where many may remember him as the enthusiastic greeter. He was a member of Oak Harbor’s Lion’s Club, where he held various office positions. He was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran in Oak Harbor and the Moose Lodge #1286 in Fremont. He was a former secretary of TRW’s Wednesday Night Golf League. He had clear love for golf as he was also a ranger at Oak Harbor’s Golf Club. He held many roles at Elmwood, including: Resident Council President, Resident Exercise Leader, Official Cookies and Cake Stirrer and Taster. He also loved joining the weekly outings Elmwood hosted. Marv had a love of socializing and meeting people, as his family quotes, “He never met a stranger, his goal was always to make people smile.” His presence will be dearly missed in every community he touched. Marvin is survived by his sons, David M. (Patricia) Thompson, Mark W. (Terri) Thompson, daughter, Susan C. (John) Weidner; grandchildren, Kelly (John) Biggert, Amanda (Brody Goetz) Weidner, Daniel (Erica) Thompson, Alecia (Fiancé Chris Sullivan) Thompson, Jamie (Brooks) Babione, Nicholas (Samantha) Thompson, Brooke (Mike) Bergum; 12 great-grandchildren, Erica Biggert, Emily Biggert, Taylor Lenke, Tucker Lenke, Lillian Thompson, Ella Thompson, Aaron Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Elena Babione, Lauren Bergum, Bradley Bergum, Garrett Bergum; and 2 additional great-grandchildren due in 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn Thompson. Memorial services for Marvin will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday January 7, 2022 at Grace Community Church in Fremont, Ohio, with a visitation beforehand starting at 10:00am. Per family request, masks are welcomed, but not required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Marvin may be given to Grace Community Church or Oak Harbor Lion’s Club.
