Marvene Carr (Corder)

May 8, 1944 — October 17, 2022

Marvene Carr (Corder) of Port Clinton, passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 8th, 1944, to Leland and Viola Corder. Her mother named her Margeret Marvene, but always called her Marvene. This would cause much confusion later in life on legal and financial documents. She was the baby of the family and was adored by both her brother Bill and her sister Mary Lee. Marvene and Mary Lee were the best of friends and quite frequently their antics ended in hysterical fits of laughter. They served as each other's “complaint department “- laughing about the absurd things that happen in daily life.

She attended Ohio State University, graduating with a dual degree in education and dental hygiene. It was at Ohio State that her brother-in-law John Peck set her up on a date with his fraternity brother Paul Carr. They dated for several years and married on June 17, 1967. They spent 55 years together and were as much in love on her last day as they were on their first day of marriage.

Marvene and Paul moved around in their first years of marriage; she taught in several school districts on the East Coast while holding down the home when Paul was at sea in the Navy. She gave birth to her son Paul in 1969 and her daughter Cathy in 1974. They moved to Port Clinton in 1978 when Paul started working at Davis-Besse. She was heavily involved in all of her children’s activities, and openly welcomed their friends over for band practices, overnights, or whatever crazy activities the kids cooked up. She loved animals and patiently raised all the cats her daughter brought home over the years, as well as several beloved dogs.

Marvene was a substitute teacher in Port Clinton and other schools in the area, before becoming a dental hygienist for the Hablitzels in the early 1980s. She worked there until she retired in 2006. She loved her patients and had the uncanny ability to understand what they were saying even when they had dental tools in their mouths.

After she retired, she and Paul enjoyed traveling in their RV. Whether spending the weekend in East Harbor State Park, enjoying one of her grandson’s baseball games, or making a cross country journey with her sister, she embraced the adventure. She also loved playing games, especially euchre. She was always a good sport but would occasionally get an ornery look in her eyes when she had a really good hand.

Marvene loved music, God, and her country. She wrote religious and patriotic music, often performing her songs in church. Listen to some of her songs here: mymasterscall.com/. She loved Christmas and created a beautiful yard display every year, even ending up in the local paper. She hosted many people over the Christmas season, showing them all the beautiful indoor decorations and her Christmas village display.

She was very involved in Lake Point Baptist Church. She and Paul were the very first members when it was founded in 2011.

She is survived by her husband and true love Paul Carr; her sister and brother-in-law John and Mary Lee (Corder) Peck of Westerville, Ohio; her sister-in-law Brenda (Ebright) Corder of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; her two children Paul and Cynthia (Eaton) Carr of Powell, Ohio, and Steven and Cathy (Carr) King of Port Clinton; and her grandson Andrew Carr of Powell, Ohio. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George William Corder.

There will be a reception on October 26th, 2022, at Lake Point Baptist Church at 135 Maple St, Port Clinton, Ohio, from 4-6 PM followed by a service at 6.

In lieu of flowers please consider spreading kindness. Marvene would take the time to check on her friends and pray with them, but she would also stop and talk with someone on the street.

She enjoyed helping others and giving them blessings. She would bless others with a shoulder to cry on, an understanding smile, a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies or a little money to get gas or food. She was always there for a friend, neighbor, or stranger in need.

Contributions can be made in her name to Lake Point Baptist Church or the More Moments More Memories Foundation.
